Central Asia is a trip. We were venturing across what was once part of the Silk Road, experiencing a part of ancient human history that few western travelers ever see for themselves. We went to the Registan, an architectural marvel in the city of Samarkand, traditional food markets in the capital city of Tashkent, and Khiva, one of the oldest cities in Central Asia established about 1500 years ago. The end of our trip brought us to the desolate Aral Sea, which if I'm being honest was probably the most depressingly strange and stunning place I've ever seen. It stood as a haunting example of how badly greed and mismanaged leadership can change our world in such a short time. It was fascinating to go back in time and explore such a historically rich part of the world.
